Roxana Jimenez Theresa Lastrilla Stephanie Morgan The month of August was a very memorable month for the Coalinga office. We welcome two new coaches, Anna & January, to the Supported Employment team. Case Manager, Sherie Kainz took her 15 year old daughter, Christy, to Stanford University for a week long camp. Seems Christy has big plans for her future, a career in Medicine. Case Manager Teri and her husband spent a fantastic week cruising the Caribbean in celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary. Galina is proud too of her daughter Alice who got an A on her Pre Calculus final and Bettina's cat had a litter of 4 adorable kittens. This is a letter an employee submitted. "What's the purpose for fire drills?” Thanks to Community Catalysts and their fire drill training, it helped me tremendously in a situation that could, otherwise, have become disastrous. One evening my daughter left a small skillet full of oil for fries on a large burner unattended. "Mom, Momma!" My daughter called out. As I opened the back sliding door to answer, I saw flames already reaching high above the stove into the blower and side cupboards. I covered the pan with a lid, but to no avail, and the only light in the kitchen was coming from the fire. It had shut down the breakers. I then reached under the kitchen sink for the fire extinguisher. By this time black smoke was throughout the house. I pulled the ring, aimed, and sprayed the entire fire out. I can understand how helpless and completely overwhelmed people can become. Everything happens quickly and with no time to think, except if you're prepared and trained on what to do in a situation such as this. Thank-you, Community Catalysts, it saved my house. Sincerely, Shirley Antonio food! Unfortunately, the limo ride was a for a more roomier "ride". Well, at least for a day, anyway! On August 2, we were treated to lunch at Applebees and were picked up at the office in a stretch limo. We had entered the KATM 103 radio station contest "Office Limo Lunch", where we had to submit a company letter explaining "why" our office deserved to be honored. We had actually entered the contest last Fall, right after our CARF inspection. They had put the contest on hold for several months, and we were picked when it began again in July. Everyone had fun and enjoyed lots of bit short, as the restaurant is only about a mile or so from our office! We hardly had time to be prestigious! Of course, we did squeeze in enough time to be a little silly, though! On July 29, the Modesto Advisory group celebrated July consumer birthdays, Mike B., and Thelma C., at Mountain Mike's Pizza Parlor. They had a great time eating and socializing with what was a great turnout of many staff and family members, as well as almost all of our Modesto consumers in attendance. An Advisory meeting was also held, with planning an upcoming "Fundraiser" as the main topic. Modesto consumer Cheneye W. has recently joined the Special Olympics Soccer team. He is really enjoying it, and looks forward to attending his practices and events. Cheneye is an awesome runner, as he previously earned first place in the Spring Special Olympics Track events.
