WELCOME ABOARD!! On August 16th, 2007, staff and consumers gathered to attend the annual “Special Friends Day”, at the Monterey County Fair. All were able to enjoy the beautiful sunny day, FREE RIDES, and the FREE LUNCH that was generously provided. The consumers were able to utilize their purchasing skills by trying the deep fried twinkies, making purchases from various vendors, and playing the carnival games provided. Last month’s winner for the safety drawing was Farley Odad, congratulations on the See’s Candy gift card, (sharing is caring). Next CAC event is the “End of Summer Bar-B-Que” on August 31st at the Monterey beach. Ukiah It was a very busy month in Ukiah. Randy D. and Paul R. spent three days in San Francisco with case managers Laura C. and Diana R. They went to the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, took a cruise around the bay and explored Pier 39. A large group of consumers went to the Redwood Summer Games. Everyone had a great time camping and participating in the activities. David S., Darryl C., Paul S., and Marie G. started college classes this month. They are all very excited about learning new things and meeting new people. Paul R. started his new job at Wal-Mart. He is doing a fantastic job and enjoying it very much. The Plum House consumers had a lot of fun at the Redwood Empire Fair. San Diego Now that summer is coming to an end, so are staff vacations in San Diego. Hillary returned from her trip to China where she attended the World Congress for Mental Health in Hong Kong and took classes at City University of Hong Kong. In Beijing she visited a psychiatric hospital and received a presentation from the lead psychiatrist there. Hillary enjoyed walking on the Great Wall of China and was suprised by how steep the walkways were. After touring the wall her legs were ready to give out. Teri had a awsome trip to Texas for a Family reunion where she was able to trace her heritage. She also spent a day hiking at Carlsbad Caverns and saw 200,000 bats fly out of the cave at sunset. What a sight! Merced Merced consumers enjoyed a day at the races. The Merced County Sheriffs Department donated tickets to consumers, staff, friends and families. They also enjoyed the day at Gilroy Family Gardens in Gilroy on August 25. They rode the rides, enjoyed the gardens, and stopped off at Casa de Fruta. Cathy has been with Community Catalysts of California for over 7years. Cathy is a Direct Service Supervisor in the Fresno office and shows a great passion for her work and the services she provides to the consumers. She is one of those employees who accepts change and is always willing to be flexible when providing services. In the month of July Cathy worked closely with a consumer who had a very difficult pregnancy and childbirth. When the consumer went into labor, Cathy pro- vided her the support she needed as the consumer’s aunt was with the consumer’s two other children. The child was born with multiple disabilities and passed away shortly after being born. Cathy was very involved in finding resources for this consumer through a local agency that could provide counseling and in making arrangements for the newborn. Cathy provided support on her own time and felt she did what she needed to do for this consumer during this trying time. Cathy goes above and beyond in providing services to our consumers and is a bright star in our office and truly represents Community Catalysts of California’s purpose, vision and values. Congratulations, Cathy! Cynthia Amador Cynthia has been a consumer of Community Catalysts since October of 2006. When we first started services with Cynthia, her goals were to obtain her immigration status in the U.S. in addition to applying for her Social Security and Medi-Cal cards. Grace Perez has been the ILS DSA that has been working closely with Cynthia to ensure that she was able to meet all the deadlines and also appear for all her appoint- ments as required to obtain all these documents. Cynthia has been very grateful for all her support. Cynthia was living with her boyfriend and his mother when we first met her and she asked for help to move out to her own apartment. She and her boyfriend are now living in their own apartment. Cynthia works for ARC of Fresno doing janitorial services. Cynthia is dedicated to her job and work group and she has been with ARC for over 7 years. She is proud of her accomplishments and is a very positive individ- ual. She used to be very shy an hesitant to receiving help from others; however, with patience and understanding from our staff and her willingness, she has been able to gain more independence in her life. Cynthia has made many strides in her life and continues to shine and become more independent everyday! Congratulations, Cynthia!
